Dear Family and Friends,
It's NOTES time again!
EYSO Youth Symphony playing Symphony No. 3 by Bohuslav Martinů. I. Allegro poco moderato II. Largo III. Allegro. Stella Childs, Trudie Childs, Storey Childs
This year we hope you will join us in celebrating 13 succesful seasons of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra’s NOTES Campaign. This is also the Childs family’s 8th season participating in this fundraiser that runs through March 25, 2018.
We are asking you to donate to EYSO this season not only because we believe in the work our organization does but also because it makes a dramatic difference in our lives day to day.
The 2017-18 season is special for so many reasons...
Future NOTES emails will contain new videos and content, please keep coming back and contributing to EYSO!
Stella
This season marks my final season with the EYSO. I am so thankful to have the opportunity this season to continue to serve as concertmaster of the Youth Symphony and to be the first violinist in the Maud Powell String Quartet (MPSQ), EYSO’s premiere Honors Chamber Music Ensemble. Every week I am given the opportunity to work with my fellow players and to learn from coaches and conductors who are dedicated to helping me become the best musician I can be. This season MPSQ is working with our main coaches, Gina DiBello (CSO) and Tim Archbold as well as amazing guest coaches Matthew Agnew (ESO), Peter Slowik (Oberlin College), Liz Freivogel and Daniel McDonough of the Jupiter String Quartet (Quartet in Residence at U of I), internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine, and Brant Taylor (CSO). Also this season, I am one of three winners of the Young Artist Concerto Competition (Trudie won too!) and I will be performing the first movement of the Barber Violin Concerto in May, on my last EYSO concert. I am looking forward to this opportunity, and I am grateful for an amazing eight seasons with EYSO.
Trudie
This is my second season in Youth Symphony I'm very excited to be playing for Mr. Swiggum and our assistant conductor Matthew Sheppard. I am enjoying youth symphony, and am excitedly preparing for my performance of the Kabalevsky cello concerto, movements 1 and 2, on the EYSO's Water concert in March with the Youth Symphony. I'm also participating in a sextet in EYSO's Chamber Music Institute, working on the Rimsky-Korsakov sextet in A Major. In addition, I continue playing with my sisters in The Catalpa Trio. Music is an important part of my life and I feel very privileged to be able to continue to share it with others.
Storey
I am currently in my second season in Youth Symphony and as a Sophomore in this elite ensemble I'm excited to experience another season and to keep performing with my accomplished peers. I know that this will be another great year of growth and achievement! In addition to Youth Symphony within the EYSO, I take part in a quintet playing Dvorak for the Chamber Music Institute. As well as EYSO, this year I have performed with the District 9 ILMEA Festival Orchestra, I am headed to ILMEA All-State in a week, and I also continue to play for the St. Charles East High School Orchestra. My study of music helps me to delve deeper into areas of study that I enjoy such as biomedical research, science and history and helps me expand my capacity for critical thinking in all aspects of my life. I plan to continue playing my viola and enjoy music my entire life.
Noel & Kari
Kari & Noel continue to keep very busy with EYSO. Noel is VP of the Board of Directors and Kari serves as Communications Director. Our family benefits greatly from being a part of the EYSO—a fair, encouraging, creative environment that has a national reputation for providing not only an engaging musical experience but also a comprehensive learning environment that values curiosity, imagination, critical thinking and collaboration.
Please make a donation, in any dollar amount, to the EYSO program. Our goal this season is to raise $3000—enough money to fund three scholarships. Any donation will help us achieve our goal and it will benefit everyone in the EYSO. Please forward this link to any music lovers in your life!
If you work for a company with a matching gifts program, please ask them to match your donation. Once NOTES ends, you will receive a donation acknowledgment statement from EYSO for tax purposes.
THANK YOU in advance for your support of EYSO!
We will be happy to take donations via the button at the top of the page (all on-line donations will be “officially” credited to Stella, but will be split between all three girls equally), in person or please mail them to the address below with a donor pledge form, downloadable here. Please make all checks payable to EYSO.
